Good news: Greece has finally made a decision on their Eurovision 2017 act

The even better news — they’ve announced that Demy, fan favourite and Greece’s two-time wiwivision representative, will represent them in Kyiv! Broadcaster ERT officially confirmed the news today after her selection was reported in news earlier today.

It seems many of the rumours over the last few weeks had some truth, too. A few weeks ago, reports suggested a video-clip national final would take place. This would be between Demy and the group Stereo Soul, with the two acts fighting for thr ticket to Kyiv. This seems to be what will happen after all, except Demy will be the only candidate. This means that the public will get to decide which song she will sing in Kyiv, according to ERT’s official press release. Demy has three English language songs which she will perform in the national final. The winning song will be selected by 100% televote.

Another rumour was that Demy has been working with Eurovision giants Dimitris Kontopoulos and Fokas Evangelinos. The duo have been involved with plenty of top-10 entries, including Sergey Lazarev and Helena Paparizou.

Once again, that has proved to be correct. The press release states that Kontopoulos has written all three national final songs for Demy, while Evangelinos will take care of the staging. We get the feeling this could be a Greek dream team!

It seems ERT have learned from their mistakes and want to get their Eurovision glory back. With Demy they’ve got a great, popular young singer and a strong team behind her. Greece are sending out the message — they want their Eurovision crown back!

So what do you think: is Demy a good choice from Greece? Do you think that Greece can make it two wins in a row in Kyiv? Let us know in the comments section below!

When he was just a young gun: Poems written by an 11-year-old George Michael are uncovered by his primary school classmate

Poems written by Wham! singer George Michael when he was just 11 years old have been unearthed by an old primary school classmate.

Penny Ling, 51, went to school with the-then Georgios Panayiotou and the pair would often play childish games together with other children on an estate in north London.

The pair met at the Roe Green Junior School in Kingsbury and it seems the songwriter penned a number of poems in 1974.

Ms Ling found the two poetic rhymes in her school yearbook by chance and kept it a secret for almost 20 years.

She has now lifted the lid on the poems after his tragic death at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, on Christmas Day last year.

The two poems ‘sounds in the night’ and ‘the story of a horse’ provide an insight into the young child who went onto to become the world famous pop star.

Even at the tender age of eleven, Michael showed signs of a future lyrical genius through his use of rhythm, emotion and words.

The revelation comes weeks after the singer was tragically found dead at his Goring-on-Thames home on Christmas Day after suspected heart failure, aged just 53.

Ms Ling, who now lives in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, and her sister both went to school with Michael and she was a couple of years below and her sister was in a class with the singer’s sister Melanie.

She first came across the poems after her sister saw the Careless Whisper singer at an awards ceremony in the late 1980s.

It prompted Ms Ling to browse through her old yearbook where amazingly she stumbled across the two poems signed Georgios Panayiotou.

She said: ‘My sister had recognised his sister at an awards ceremony George Michael was attending, and came back and said “you will never guess who I met”.

‘I think she got his autograph. At the time my sister was a buyer at Tesco and she got taken to the ceremony by one of her customers.

‘When she told me, I then went to my 1974 yearbook and looked through it and lo and behold there were two poems from George Michael.

‘The whole school was represented in the book. It was published once a year.

‘The only people that know about it were friends of mine who were massive George Michael fans. I kept my yearbook locked away in a cupboard.

‘For an eleven-year-old I think the way it’s written is quite complex. He was a couple of years above me.

‘Back then we had the same teacher called Mr Ian Greenwood who taught creative writing. I wonder whether part of George’s significant writing ability stems from that class.’

Ms Ling was a few years below Michael when they both attended Roe Green Junior School in Kingsbury, north London.

But she would go round to a friend’s house who lived close to Michael’s family after school to play childish games on an estate with other children – where he would join in.

She added: ‘The reason I remember him is he lived at the back of my best friend’s house in Burnt Oak, London. The whole area was very multi-national.

‘George Michael’s family were not the only Cypriots living in that community, it was a real mixed bag.

‘I lived the opposite end of the school catchment area. I would go round to friend’s house maybe once a month.

THE STORY OF A HORSE

Once there was a lonely horse, weeping on a stack of hay,

The gun was ready, the bullet was hot, the horse had broken a leg that day.

The dog was barking, the chickens were screaming, the cows were mooing, the sun was gleaming.

The farmer closed his eyes,

And dropped the gun, he hadn’t shot,

But the horse had run.

He ran through the streets,

With loud a sound,

And then he fell, upon the ground.

The townspeople said, that a horse that is lame,

Can never really be brought to the tame,

They said he was mad, that he should be slain

And never was he seen again.

Georgios Panayiotou

SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT

Beyond the world of sight, there is a sixth dimension of sound, and in many cases, sound beats sight, and the reason?

Sight is blacked out by the night, and that is where sounds comes in.

It stands to reason that what you can’t see…. you can hear!

And the same applies for daytime, only in reverse.

In other words, what you can’t hear, you can see

And that is why I am turning the subject to night.

Now what I’ve forgotten to tell you, I’m sure something slipped my tongue.

Ah! Now I remember, you’ll never guess what I have to say to you…… I am blind!!!

Professor Whatsisname

(Alias G.Panayiotou)

‘She lived in a cul-de-sac and over the back was a bit of wasteland and sometimes we would play in the cul-de-sac if we needed a hard surface – George Michael joined in.

‘We would play cowboys and indians, pogo-sticking – how long you could bounce on a stick without falling off – hopscotch, the usual kids games.’

Ms Ling said she knew Michael for around three years at school but never expected him to go on have the glittering career he will always be remembered for.

She added: ‘I probably knew him from about six to nine years old, so he would have been nine to eleven roughly.

‘I found him to be one of these people to be reasonable quiet and studious. He absorbed what was going on around him.

‘He was not a flash person or didn’t like to show off. He didn’t stand out as been exceptional or different. He was just like the rest of us.’

George Michael has ‘three albums of unreleased music in his private collection’

RARE footage of George Michael recording his unreleased album Trojan Souls has surfaced.

The 80-minute video, which was never officially released, starts with Michael arriving at an LA studio with his partner Anselmo Feleppa.

The undated video seems to have been filmed around in mid-to-late 1992 or early 1993, with Michael, who was born in June 1963, mentioning his age, 29, at one point.

Feleppa passed away in 1993 after a brain haemorrhage.

Trojan Souls was a musical project Michael started with childhood friend Andros Georgiou, who does some of the filming for the newly-uncovered video.

The album was due to be released on their joint record label Hardback in 1993; they’d later start the label Aegan which released Michael’s Older album in 1996.

Michael reportedly pitched Trojan Souls to Sony and recorded the album between 1991 and 1993 during his legal fight with the label. He mentions in the video that the record was due to come out on Warner Brothers.

George Michael has reportedly left three albums of unreleased material in his vaults following his death.

The beloved singer-songwriter died aged 53 after being found by boyfriend Fadi Fawaz on Christmas Day, and while he was set to release an album next year with producer Naughty Boy, apparently the 80s icon was sitting on a wealth of unreleased material elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mirror, George had three albums which had been shelved following his perfectionist frustrations with the music, and they had working titles of Trojan Souls, Extended Plaything and White Light.

The latter was the name of a single George released back in 2012 which was never followed up by an album, and was also performed at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.

Work on Trojan Souls apparently started back in the 1990s, and featured vocals from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sade, Seal, Bryan Ferry and Janet Jackson, but was also never finished despite some tracks leaking online.

The singer also famously never released a follow-up to 1990 album Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1 following a dispute with Sony, with some tracks originally intended for Vol 2 later appearing on 1992 charity album Red Hot + Dance.

Fans potentially hoping to hear the unreleased tracks however might be disappointed, after former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley said releasing the material would be inappropriate.

Following his death, partner Fadi posted a link to unreleased track This Kind Of Love, which was produced by Sir Elton John.

The exact cause of George Michael’s death is yet to be determined, with speculation pointing towards suspected heart failure.

Official inquest into George Michael’s death likely to be delayed until early next year

George Michael leaves fortune to favourite sister

Bulk of the star’s £105million estate will go to hairdresser Melanie, 55, with his godchildren also named in his will.

George Michael’s sister Melanie is expected to inherit half of the singer’s fortune following his shock death from heart failure, it has been reported.

The megastar, 53, is understood to have left £50million of his estimated £105million estate to 55-year-old hairdresser Melanie, to whom he was particularly close.

Michael’s other sister, Yioda, 57, is also expected to inherit part of the fortune, the Sun reported. His Godchildren are also thought to be named in his will.

A source told the Sun: ‘George was very close to his sisters, and the understanding is that they’re going to inherit most of his wealth, particularly Melanie who he was incredibly close to.

‘She was there at many of the big milestones in his life, and was there by his side until the very end.’

Melanie used to cut her brother’s hair and was once hired as a make-up artist for a tour of China, the newspaper reported.

It was previously reported that Michael’s Godchildren are also likely to inherit large sums from the singer’s will.

With his parents

George Michael hoped to be buried next to his mother in a family burial plot that he bought near his north London home, sources have revealed.

A friend who grew up with him has now told how the Wham! singer will be laid to rest next to her in Highgate Cemetery, north London.

Katerina Pourikou, the sister of George’s former best friend Andros Georgiou, told The Sun: ‘It has been really hard. I knew he hadn’t been very well but none of us know what happened.

‘Everyone in the family is struggling to take it in but at least he is finally at rest with his mum now.’

The star is said to have been devastated since the death of his mother Lesley Panayiotou to cancer in 1997.

The official cause of the Wham! legend’s death has yet to be determined

There is likely to be a long wait to find out the official cause of George Michael’s death.

The legendary gay icon was found dead on Christmas Day by his partner, at the age of just 53.

While it’s believed the Faith singer died from ‘heart failure,’ his official cause of death has yet to be determined.

Sadly due to the time of year, Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court is currently closed and doesn’t open again until January 4 when its first cases of 2017 are scheduled.

George’s cause of death has yet to be made official.

It’s therefore likely that George’s case will be opened and then adjourned on that date.

George Michael’s heartbroken lover said yesterday how Christmas turned to tragedy when he found the pop star lying lifeless in bed .

Fadi Fawaz said he would never stop missing the former Wham! singer, who suffered heart failure, aged 53.

He said: “We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch.

“I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don’t know what happened yet.

“Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I.

George Michael partied until the end as he hosted wild all-night bashes just weeks before his tragic death.

Fadi Fawaz and George Michael had everything to look forward to.

“Now everything is ruined. I want people to remember him the way he was – he was a beautiful person.”

Speaking to the Mirror earlier, he added: “It’s a big shock, obviously and it’s really upsetting.

“I stayed the whole weekend. I was there Friday night and then I found him Sunday. I found him dead in the morning. It was peaceful.”

George Michael’s home, where he was found dead

He later tweeted: “It’s a Xmas I will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning.. I will never stop missing you.”

Fadi, who has been seeing George since 2009, also confirmed no funeral plans had been finalised for the star, who passed away at his £5million home in Goring, Oxfordshire.

We can also reveal George had been hosting wild all-night parties in the past few weeks.

The star enjoyed raucous nights until 8am with friends at his £8million mansion in Highgate, North London – despite a reported stay at a Swiss rehab clinic last year.

A source said: “George loved having friends over and was often still going strong well into the following morning. This continued right up until his death.

“He may have been in his 50s but it’s fair to say he gave much younger partygoers a run for their money and the atmosphere was always quite hedonistic.”
As fans left flowers and tributes outside both of the legend’s homes, Thames Valley Police said they were treating the death as “unexplained, but not suspicious”.

George’s manager Michael Lippman said the exact time of death was not clear but there was “no foul play whatsoever” and his death had been unexpected.

US publicist Cindi Berger added that the star, who sold more than 100 million records, had not been ill.

George Michael died on Christmas Day

George – real name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou – had been in good spirits, according to close friend and former Wham! backing singer Shirlie Kemp.

She said: “Only last week I saw him laughing and happy. My heart is broken to lose someone so special.”

George, who battled addiction to crack cocaine and marijuana, as well as bouts of depression for more than 20 years, had become increasingly reclusive.

His public appearances in recent months have been few and far between.

He was seen out for dinner in September at a restaurant near his Oxfordshire home where he shocked onlookers with his bloated appearance.

A neighbour in Highgate also said he looked “tired” and “haggard” earlier this year.

Sasha Gretsay, who lives nearby, said: “I remember thinking he looked unwell. He looked worried and older than my friend who was 57.”

A 69-year-old neighbour in Goring said George was notably absent from the Christmas Eve midnight mass service at his local church.

He had attended in previous years. Friends believe that he had made at least two suicide attempts over the years.

In 2013, he was airlifted to hospital with head injuries after throwing himself out of a friend’s Range Rover at 70mph on the M1.

He claimed at the time that he was checking the door. A pal also claimed he once slashed his wrists.

The friend said: “Over the past few years, there has often been concern for his welfare.”

People have left tributes outside the singer’s house.

Last year George was reportedly treated for drug addiction at the £190,000-a-month Kusnacht practice in Switzerland.

Despite fears over his lifestyle and health, he was planning a comeback

He was working on a new album – his first studio effort since 2004 – as well as putting the “finishing touches” to a documentary called Freedom: George Michael.

A source said: “In many respects, 2017 was very much going to be his year which is what makes this so utterly tragic.

“The new music and the documentary were very much at the forefront of his mind and he was excited to share them.”

A world tour was even said to be planned, including Australia in 2018.

Promoter Paul Dainty said: “It’s a total shock, I was in the process of setting stuff up with his manager.”

George’s final gig was at Earl’s Court, London, in 2012.

Watch George Michael perform “I’m Your Man,” “Freedom 90” and “I Remember You” at London’s Earls Court on his last tour

Flashback: George Michael Plays Final Encore at Last Concert

The tour wrapped at London’s Earls Court on October 17th, 2012. A fan caught most of the encore with a cellphone camera, which you can watch right here. It begins with a medley of “Amazing,” “I’m Your Man” and “Freedom! ’90,” some of the only originals he played all night. It wrapped up with a cover of the Victor Schertzinger/Johnny Mercer 1941 pop song “I Remember You,” which has been covered by everyone from Doris Day to Kenny Rogers. The lyrics take on a new poignancy when you know it’s the last thing he ever sang in public. “When my life is through,” he sings. “And the angels ask me to recall/The thrill of them all/Then I will tell them I remember you.”

Over the next four years there were constant rumors that Wham! was going to reform or Michael was going to head back on the road or record a new album, but there were also steady press reports that he was in failing health.

Tragically, he died on on Christmas Day in 2016 of unknown causes.

Sydney’s, Palm beach mansion which stole George Michael’s heart

The Australian beach house that George Michael called home after the legendary singer bought it for $5.8M during his final tour of the nation.

It’s understood Michael bought his own beachfront mansion in Sydney’s ritzy far-northern beaches after falling in love with the city while on his last ever Australian tour in 2010.

Michael had reportedly only planned to spend a few days in Sydney after the tour, but ended up enjoying the city’s relaxed lifestyle and buzzing nightlife so much that he stayed for several months.

The home, which he picked up for $5.8 million, is available for rent at the price of $3928 a night with a minimum stay of seven days.

Michael is believed to have bought the Palm beach mansion during his extended stay following his 2010 tour.

The tour saw him rake in almost $15 million after sellout shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

He was booked in to perform further shows across Australia in 2012 for his ‘Symphonica’ Tour, but later cancelled them as he dealt with recovery from a nearly-fatal bout of pneumonia in late 2011.

The property is featured on the Contemporary Hotels website, and has no exclusion period listed – indicating Michael likely wasn’t planning on returning any time soon.

An expansive deck wraps around the middle level of the three-story home, perched on the cliff tops near Whale Beach.

An infinity lap pool and alfresco tiled dining area, along with four king-size bedrooms all fitted with ensuites.
